What’s Moombahton?..

Moombahton is a genre of electronic dance music that was created by American dj/producer Dave Nada at a high school homecoming "skipping party" for his younger cousin in Washington, D.C., in the fall of 2009. The specific event that stimulated NADA's development of the Moombahton genre was his slowing the Afrojack remix of the Silvio Ecomo & DJ Chuckie song "Moombah" to 108 beats per minute. Because that tempo nears that of the reggaeton, Nada created the neologism "Moombahton" by combining the title of the track "Moombah" and the "ton" ending of the word "reggaeton" and applied it to his new genre.

Between autumn of 2009 and March, 2010, Nada perfected his vision of the new genre in the recording studio utilizing intuitions and insights garnered from the "skipping party" experience to create a five track EP of newly-minted Moombahton tracks that was released in March 2010 with the promotional assistance and support of DJ Ayres and DJ Tittsworth at T & A Records. The 5 tracks on the EP Moombahton are "Moombahton," "Riverside," a Moombahton version of the Sidney Samson hit ,"Ruffcut Moombahton Dub," featuring a sample of the Maluca hit song, "El Tigeraso," "Ruff Cut Moombaton Edit, and "Seductive Sound." The "5-pack" Moombaton sampler was uploaded to Soundcloud in early March 2010, where it garnered immediate attention and stimulated the creation of other Moombahton tracks by a handful of artists in the United States and Canada.

However, Nada's "Moombahton" was much more than simply "Dutch House pitched down to 108 BPMs." The original Moombahton tracks feature not only the standard moombahton 108 BPMs but also 1.) chopped vocals, 2.) layered acapellas, 3.) extended and enhanced build-ups, as well as the introduction of 4.) new drums and percussion elements. These signature characteristics of the genre are known as the "5 elements of classic moombahton.”

In April, 2010, influential cultural music blog 'Generation Bass' posted a Moombahton article that drew even more attention to the nascent Dave Nada-innovated genre.
This media exposure helped to spawn the work of the genre's most innovative producer to date, Munchi from Rotterdam, Netherlands. The young gifted producer raised the bar in production quality and helped legitimize the sound of Moombahton. He self-released his "Moombahton Promo" EP on his blog as well as his collaborate efforts with dj/producer David Heartbreak from NC, entitled "Munbreakton" & "Fuck H&M" EP.

Who are Nadastrom?

aka Dave Nada and Matt Nordstrom who first joined forces in the fall of 2007. Every week after some heavy drinking, the two discussed the meaning of life and a few song ideas they had. Their initial tracks caught the attention of Dave “Switch” Taylor who immediately wanted them for his legendary Dubsided imprint.

Dave Nada consistently proves to be one of the most electrifying and effective DJ’s around. Recently acquired by AM Only, Nada joins an impressive roster including everyone from the Crookers and MSTRKRFT to Richie Hawtin and Tiesto. He is a longstanding resident at Taxlo, voted “best party in America” by Blender Magazine. DJ Craze will soon break from his duties as Kanye West’s official DJ to join Nada in an international tour, which kicks off in Singapore. Even in a time of declining record sales, Dave Nada’s regular releases on T&A (label of Tittsworth & DJ Ayres, of The Rub) rapidly sell out.

Matt Nordstrom is responsible for production of the highest caliber. His studio work includes longstanding efforts with Grammy Award-winning, internationally chart-topping, Global Underground artists. Widely regarded as a leading cutting edge label of its scene, Nic Fanciulli’s Saved imprint offered Nordstrom a multiple record deal, where he would join Pete Tong and a long list of trend setters. Having held numerous residencies in the DC area, he is also synonymous with razor tight mixing and impeccable selection. Switch (XLR8R’s artist of the year and M.I.A.’s album producer) quickly invited the duo to join the legendary imprint Dubsided for a fast approaching record release.

Nadastrom tracks are trainspotted by countless A-list DJ’s (Diplo, Drop The Lime, A-trak, etc.) and their collaborative efforts include work with Nina Sky, Pitbull, Stretch Armstrong, Kid Sister, Tittsworth, Blaqstarr and more.

Uncompromising quality in the studio and on the decks, Nadastrom is without a doubt “the future” of music...
