MOBY CALLS OUT BLACK EYED PEAS...
Moby dismissed Britney Spears and Black Eyed Peas for releasing only ‘hyper-produced corporate product’ this week, telling Spinner Music ‘calling it music is a misnomer.’
"It's manufactured,” he pointed out, “I appreciate it as pop culture phenomenon and some of the songs I like if I hear them in a shopping mall or something, but it doesn't function as music for me,” he repeated.
The Play megastar’s comments emerged after a bizarre article appeared on the Daily Star in which Swedish House Mafia mainman Axwell appeared to accuse similar style pop-dance producers of ‘watering down’ house music.
"All this chewing-gum child s**t will destroy the house scene,” the Positiva/ EMI promoted star reportedly said, “It happened before in 1998 with the filtered house disco stuff.”
The article produced an immediate flood of commentary on Australian website Resident Advisor’s ‘Feed’ bulletin board as soon as they linked to it, though was taken down almost immediately by the Star raising questions over its accuracy.
In more celebrity DJ news, Washington Post critic Megan Buerger analyzed the secret of DJ magazine’s Top 100 number one Armin Van Buuren this week in a review of his performance at Fur nightclub in Northeast Washington and concluded that one of his key assets is being ‘fun to watch’.
Also singling out Armin’s dogged musical conservatism (‘he is a loyal minister of trance’) she had just one complaint, however, about his reliance on ‘incessant pauses, which seemed to slightly irk the audience,” she added.
“The breaks look something like this,” she explained, “After building momentum, he freezes the song in a high-pitched pause and cranks the lights behind him, standing celestially with his arms spread as the crowd fawns below.” (Washington Post: http://wapo.st/mrUm5o)
