LAZY POP SAMPLING STRIKES AGAIN...

You will likely remember the shit-storm that erupted earlier in the year when Black Eyed Peas main offender Will.i.am didn’t so much as sample Boys Noize’s club hit Yeah but jacked an untouched and unauthorised version for his own dodgy tune.

The trend of lazy dance ripping is set to continue on though with the latest account finding US megastar Beyonce lifting liberally from Pon de Floor, Diplo and Switch’s big hit from their Major Lazer project.

Entitled Girls (Who Run The World), Beyonce’s new single borrows heavily from Pon de Floor, jacking pretty much the entire structure of the original production.

In defense of the single, the sampling is slightly more creative than Will.i.am’s attempt at nabbing some club cool, with flourishes of additional production sprucing up Girls. What’s more the Pon de Floor sampling is actually legit, with Diplo and Switch serving as co-producers of the track. Good for them at least!

DEADMAU5 SHEDS "FUCKING CLUB SHIT" ON NEW ALBUM...

Deadmau5 let slip the news that he’s been working on a full length artist album which will veer off from his previous releases and offer “12 things you’ve never heard from me before and that [are] not some re-worked thing from two years ago” – a proper body of work.

Now we have some more information on what shape the artist album will take, with word coming straight from the ‘mau5’s mouth in a recent interview with Rolling Stone where Deadmau5 admitted he’s looking to move away from club oriented material.

“It’s going to be an album, start to finish,” the producer quipped before continuing on to explain that the LP will contain “actual song-songs” and that he wants to “get away from that fucking club shit”.

While Deadmau5 protestations are nothing new, the interview sees Deadmau5 sticking to his curmudgeonly guns and teasing that he might even sing on the album tracks, bringing back memories of the last time we heard Deadmau5 sing over a rough guitar tune (Sleeping Beauty Pills).

“My manager hates this,” Deadmau5 says of one tune prepared for the album. “It never kicks in, you know? And I play it live and the people hate it ‘cause it never drops.”

Rejecting the mainstream is one thing, producing stuff that everyone hates is another!

MARTIN SOLVEIG IS 'READY 2 GO'...

Martin Solveig set the world on fire after his smash hit (and video) for 'Hello'. Now, the caprering, loveable Frenchman is back with his new single, 'Ready 2 Go', featuring the vocal talents of Kele from Bloc Party. If you thought the 'Hello' video - filmed at Roland Garos Tennis Championships (Live) - was a feat worthy of attnetion, then wait until you see the new video for this latest installment in the Smash video series.

The video follows Martin and his "managuer", La Faille, as they continue their quest to push Martin - the unreluctant star - to the top. The extrovert manager suggests they stage an impromptu, gorilla performance at France's biggest stadium, the Stade De France, just before the international friendly between the national French team and Croatia... and of course, the pair find themselves in deeper than they thought.

Shot on location, in front of a full stadium of people and the blessing of an entire country behind him, this video once again breaks the mould and boundaries of just what can be done...

TIESTO & DEADMAU5 COLLAB INCOMING...

It was only a matter of time, right? Not content with simply sharing top billing at festivals the world over, dance music moguls Tiesto and Deadmau5 have stepped into the studio together.

Last Friday 15 April, Tiësto revealed on Twitter that he was heading into the darkened den where the mau5 plies his trade (and updates Facebook). The hook-up was later confirmed by the mau5: “well, finished the groundwork for a new track with tiesto tonight… woop! gunna leave him with the stems for now while i tour around for a bit, then we’ll crack on with it later! we so excited.”

Just when the track will surface is unclear, but the results will surely be bombastic. Tiësto is on quite a collaborative streak at the moment, with recent efforts alongside Hardwell, Marcel Woods, Angger Dimas and Toolroom Knights ringleader Mark Knight on the Beatport-conquering Beautiful World.

“I’ve spent a lot of time making underground DJ tracks again, because I forgot about that a little bit,” the Dutchman enthused to MTV recently. “I haven’t been in Beatport in years. Tiësto is more ‘straight to iTunes’, so I like it that I’m back in the Beatport charts again.”

While Tiësto’s definition of ‘underground’ may be a little skewed, there’s no question that a hook-up with Deadmau5 has ‘Beatport blockbuster’ written all over it.

The reluctant superstar had this to say about Tiesto in his recent ramble “You know, he’s getting very electro-housey and he’s doing stuff with Diplo – who’s like the opposite of trance – and that’s a great thing to see an artist of that level branch out. Because I don’t want to hear the same shit all day. And I don’t want to hear 20 other guys trying to emulate that one guy’s same shit...”

ERIC PRYDZ AND ANNIE MAC HEAD UP 'TONIGHT' PARTIES IN IBIZA...

“Amnesia is without doubt my favourite venue to play in Ibiza. It has everything you would expect and more from an Ibizan club. We’re really trying hard to bring something different to Amnesia this season, rather than the traditional line ups we’ve all seen time and time again. I’m super excited and can’t wait to see you all there!”

This is what Prydz had to say about his impending summer months on the White Isle of Ibiza. ‘Tonight’ is the brainchild of one of London’s biggest clubbing institutions, Together, and this summer the brand will be welcoming a spectrum of genre-crossing producers to grace the world-renowned nightclub, Amnesia. ‘Tonight’ has conjured up eclectic, tailor-made line-ups to grace this Balearic super-club between 21st June and 6th September.

Fresh off the back of his sell-out EPIC show at Brixton Academy, Eric Prydz will be getting cosy down at Amnesia this summer with his weekly residency playing in the terrace and in the main room. Joining Eric will be Radio 1’s main lady, Annie Mac, to spice things up with her energy-brimming, genre-hopping selection. Special guests will be bumping side with the residents such as D&B duo Chase & Status, Boys Noize, Skream, Benga, Tiga, Adam Beyer, Diplo, Erol Alkan, Fake Blood, Crookers, Sub Focus, Nero, Skrillex and A-Trak, and that’s not all.

THE TOP 20 DANCE TRACKS OF THE LAST 20 YEARS...

It’s probably fair to say that by now Pete Tong is recognised as the voice of the global dance scene, hosting the aptly named Essential Mix and his own show on BBC Radio 1 in the UK.

Having been in the driver’s seat of the dance community for 20 years now, the BBC are rolling out the celebrations to honour Tong’s two decades of service, beginning with a listener-voted poll of the top 20 dance songs from 1991 to now.

As you’d expect from such a poll, the top 20 tracks of the last two decades are an interesting bunch, with veterans of the scene like The Prodigy, The Chemical Brothers and Massive Attack all ranking highly, while DJ icons like Laurent Garnier, Josh Wink, Sasha and Eric Prydz received deserved nods.

Interestingly enough, it’s only Underworld and Daft Punk that rank with multiple entries in the top 20, with the latter scoring three places and an extra point for Stardust. While it’s a sign of the times that Skream’s (very good) remix of La Roux’s In For The Kill makes the list, no amount of dubstep fandom could keep Energy 52’s Cafe del Mar from top spot. Thus is the power/commitment of trance fans.

A Celebration of Pete Tong: Top 20 Tracks – 1991-2011:

1.Energy 52 – Cafe del Mar
2.Underworld – Born Slippy
3.Sasha – Xpander
4.Daft Punk – One More Time
5.Stardust – Music Sounds Better
6.Robin S – Show Me Love
7.Daft Punk – Around the World
8.Prodigy – Smack My Bitch Up
9.Massive Attack – Unfinished Sympathy
10.Eric Prydz- PjanooFind
11.Groove Armada – Superstylin'
12.Laurent Garnier – Man with the Red Face
13.Chemical Brothers – Hey Boy Hey Girl
14.Gat Décor – Passion
15.Josh Wink – Higher State of Consciousness
16.Daft Punk – Da Funk
17.Armand Van Helden – You Don't Know Me
18.La Roux – In for the Kill (Skream remix)
19.Underworld – Rez / Cowgirl
20.Diss Reaction – Jieehaaa

MAJOR LAZER TV SHOW...

What with his frequent attacks on M.I.A., repping smartphones in viral videos and working with everyone from Tiesto to Snoop Dogg and Black Eyed Peas, it’s clear that US producer Diplo has a seriously full plate. That dish just got a bit bigger though, with news now out that Major Lazer, the mutant dancehall outfit formed with regular collaborator Switch, is getting a TV adaptation.

As reported by Pitchfork, Diplo and Switch’s laser wielding mascot will star in an animated TV series on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim block of programming – famous for shows like Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Sealab 2021 and Tim And Eric Awesome Show, Good Job! - with each episode clocking in at 15 minutes in length.

No air date has been confirmed but we trust there'll be all the off the wall antics and far out freakery of past Major Lazer music videos and plenty of damn daggering...

FAITHLESS'S FINAL FAREWELL...

After 15 years as one of dance music's most revered acts, Faithless has made its final bow.

The band came to London's O2 Academy Brixton on Friday 8 April for a long-sold-out final show, and from all reports they made it count. For all those who couldn't get tickets, the performance was also broadcast live via satellite in cinemas across Northern Europe.

In the true spirit of the band, the London gig was a celebration. Just like LCD Soundsystem's last-ever show in their spiritual home of New York, Faithless delivered a career-spanning set-list. They also came equipped with an eye-popping light show, including some always-welcome lasers.

The first video below (shot by a cinema-goer) shows set closer We Come 1, with a clearly emotional Maxi Jazz leading the crowd through an ecstatic last hurrah. We can only imagine how the venue’s foundations shook on the night.

As Faithless themselves beamed yesterday: "The party may have ended but the memories go on!"

Hopefully there’ll be a DVD to help us remember!..

ARMIN THE ASTRONAUT...

Not so long ago we announced that Armin van Buuren was moving to Space in Ibiza for the 2011 summer season. Well, in 2014 the trance titan is actually going into space.

Armin is one of the 100 'Founder Astronauts' selected by ‘space tourism’ company SXC (Space Expedition Curaca), to take a flight into the stratosphere. The Founder Astronauts are put through a training program to equip them for the trip, including special instruction on weightlessness, G-forces and keeping white shirts crisp outside the earth’s atmosphere.

"For every DJ, it’s a dream to travel 3.5 times faster than their own sound," says the DJ in a statement, "and then that deafening silence at 100 kilometres high. I can’t wait. I guess a 200-BPM heart rate is likely."

Here's what im thinking...
Write to SXC. With my powers of persuasion convince them to replace Armin +1 other, with Guetta & Will.I.Am. Leave them up there to play with sun...

WHAT IS DIRTY SMART?..

In a recent interview, I was asked the question: "What is Dirty Smart?"
You would think as the MD of Dirty Smart, answering would be a piece of cake. You would be wrong!
It's taken me the best part of 4 hours to formulate an answer...

"What is Dirty Smart? It's a tricky question with more than one answer. Yes, we make clothes, and yes, are classed as a fashion label; however that depiction doesn’t really scratch the surface of what Dirty Smart is.

Dirty Smart is a representation of streetwear, targeting the music lovers and socialites of today's youth culture.
It's an expression of personality, a way of life; questioning the system, and rejecting the mainstream.

Dirty Smart is heavily intertwined with music, in particular the clubbing industry. The greatest DJ’s and producers in the world wear Dirty Smart, and the most cutting edge, dedicated clubbers on the dance floor wear Dirty Smart.

I asked the fans of Dirty Smart (via various social network platforms) to help answer the question "What is Dirty Smart?"
One reply rang true; "Dirty Smart is a brand for people who live, not exist."

So, what is Dirty Smart?... Pass."

Lush Wish List.

Lush Bubblegum Lip Scrub

My lips are usually really dry and chapped however much I use chap stick so when I saw this product on the Lush website I was really excited! I decided to read up about it and read a few reviews and I also watched a few makeup/beauty guru's review's about it on YouTube as well and now it’s finally on my Lush wish list! Apparently it smells just like the Snow Fairy shower gel, that is also made with exfoliating caster sugar and it is edible once you’ve rubbed most of it into your lips (gently of course)!

Lush Cupcake Fresh Face Mask
I would really love this product from Lush also, as I have combination skin and it claims to calm breakouts and remove access oil. It also looks really yummy too! :)

So my birthday is about a month away and I'd just love to splurge my birthday money on these two lovely products from Lush!

EPIC - ERIC PRYDZ LAUNCHES LIVE SHOW...

After 18 months of preparations, the curtain has finally raised on EPIC: Eric Prydz In Concert. The debut show at London’s Brixton Academy on Saturday 2 April was loftily billed as “the largest DJ show ever conceived”, and the results were certainly worthy of its name.

In the lead-up to the big reveal, Prydz’s blog documented the construction of the towering 30-metre stage set, which took 18 hours to build. EPIC was designed, built and installed by visuals architects Immersive, whose vision for the Swedish superstar included holographic visuals and 3D animation projections.

“We’ve got rotational mapping – a system that we custom built – which allows us to move objects whilst continually mapping them with visuals,” says EPIC’s director Mark Calvert on the blog. “There’s an incredibly high resolution rear screen that runs on six HD projectors, and then of course, the hologram screen which runs on one HD projector.”

Luckily all the hard work paid off, with ecstatic reviews rolling in from the sold-out show. After a warm-up from Scottish pro Funk D’Void, Prydz stepped up for his full-throttle mind-melt. Of course, the YouTube uploads have started flooding in, so check them out below:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pxTb6DwG_gw
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=toBMZ9D0gG0

Prydz is taking the EPIC staging to the English countryside for Global Gathering. He’s doing his thing in the Global tent alongside live legends Underworld and fellow Immersive convert Sasha, who collaborated with the company on his V_rtek live show.
Booom.
