BURNING MAN FESTIVAL SOLD OUT...

Burning Man Festival
Over in the US there’s currently a parade of disgruntled ravers kicking up a fuss. No, they didn’t miss out on the rave-riot at last week’s Kaskade concert, they’re decrying the drama around this year’s Burning Man festival, which has sold out for the first time in its 20+ year history.

Set to go down once again in the Nevada Black Rock desert later this month, The San Francisco Chronicle reports that this year’s Burning Man festival has had its capacity limited to 50,000 attendees due to a permit clause with land rights holders, meaning the festival’s organisers have had to similarly limit the amount of tickets sold for the week long festival.

The cap on tickets has become a major point of conflict with this year’s festival irking lifelong Burners that missed out on securing their tickets and enabling a scalper’s gold rush of sorts with tickets winding up for sale online for prices in the thousands.

“People on eBay have bid more than $1,500 for a single ticket – more than four times the highest retail priced ticket at $360,” The San Francisco Chronicle’s story claims, going onto add that on StubHub – the very same website which caught the ire of James Murphy earlier this year – tickets to Burning Man 2011 range anywhere from $1,270 to $250,000. WTF?

The limited capacity and subsequent exorbitant black market prices for tickets have also raised concerns of increasing commercialism in the Burning Man festival which is praised for its community spirit and currency of trading and services.

We know that a few Dirty Smarters will be (or would have been) making the pilgrimage to Burning Man this year – there’s a reason why it’s our #1 'Festival To Do Before You Die'...

What is Burning Man?...

Once a year, tens of thousands of people gather in Nevada's Black Rock Desert (also known as "the playa") to create Black Rock City, a temporary metropolis dedicated to community, art, self-expression, and self-reliance. They depart one week later, having left no trace whatsoever.

In Black Rock City, you're guaranteed not to be the weirdest kid in the classroom. You'll become a part of the growing community of Burners who are active year-round, around the world ... ensuring that the fire of Burning Man culture never goes out.
